Recently we’ve been focusing on the importance of getting Omega-3 into your diet, so it’s probably fair enough if you’re asking “but why?” Here’s our elevator explanation!
There are two main types of Omegas; Omega-3s and Omega-6s. Both are polyunsaturated fatty acids that differ from each other in their chemical structure.
Most western societies now get far too much of the Omega-6s and not enough of the Omega-3s. This imbalance is implicated in many health conditions as too many omega-6s have been linked to inflammation, diabetes, depression, eye problems, auto immune disease and asthma.
The consensual ideal ratio of Omega-6 to omega-3 is 2:1 although most consumers of the SAD (standard American diet) range from anywhere between 10:1 to 20:1. So it’s pretty out of kilter! This is largely due to all the high Omega-6 oils that are used in cooking and found in processed foods.
It is for these reasons that making a conscious effort to get a good amount of Omega-3 is so important! Some of our products which are great for getting your intake are Omega 3, 6 & 9 are Omega 3 fish oil capsules, or Krill or alternatively Flax oil (in capsules or oil). We’ve also got the kids covered with O-Mega 3 bursts. You can read up more about the benefits of these products by clicking through to them on our website.
If you have any more questions around Omega-3s leave us a comment below or write to us on Facebook.
