I’m just going to talk quickly about maca powder, what it is and what it does. It’s been my favourite little ‘occasional’ supplement over the last couple of months, but even more recently I’ve discovered what it can do for your skin!

Maca powder is also known as “the Peruvian super food”. It is loaded with beneficial nutrients, including vitamins (B1, B2, C, E), minerals and trace elements (calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, zinc… the list goes on) and complex alkaloids. Organic maca powder is also rich in immune strengthening fatty acids and sterols that are essential for our general health and wellbeing. It is malty in flavour and it adds a delicious depth to my green smoothies (which is how I like to consume it) but I also like to mix it with my yoghurt, oats and muesli.

THIS is the part I’m really overwhelmingly excited about which is why I have to share this with you. In addition to the health benefits listed above it’s the radiant complexion that maca gives that I love the most. I’ve been using maca topically as a mask for about two weeks which has given my skin new life, lustiness (yep) and vigour. It’s not as softening as some other mask or scrub ingredients but it’s more about giving strength, clarity and vigour.

Here’s the recipe:

½ tsp Good Health Maca Powder

½ Tbsp Bentonite or other Cosmetic Clay

½ tsp Good Health Cacao Powder

½ Tbsp Liquid of your choice (full-fat milk, apple cider vinegar, water, almond milk)

1. Place all your dry ingredients in a bowl.

2. Add liquid.

3. Stir well and quick, or the mask will set up before you know it. The consistency you’re aiming for is akin to pudding - light, creamy, chocolate pudding!

Spread a thin layer all over your clean face and leave it on until it dries, about 15-20 minutes. Remove by placing a warm washcloth over your face and letting the mask soften. Then, you can just wipe it off with the washcloth and rinse your face completely.

Done! Radiant one might even say…

I’ve been really impressed with the quality of Good Health NZ’s maca powder. I have tried various brands in the past and ended up throwing them away because of the unpleasant taste it had in my smoothies but this brand seems to be a lot milder, quite pleasant and almost sweet in taste.
